06-1What is SDGs

What is SDGs?

At the United Nations Summit in September 2015, the member states unanimously adopted an Agenda for Sustainable Development to be achieved by 2030. These are called Sustainable Development Goals or SDGs. The U.N. set out 17 global goals and 169 achievement criteria. In order to "leave no one behind" on earth, SDGs are universal goals that not only developing countries but also developed countries themselves should take the initiative to tackle, and Japan is also actively working on achieving SDGs in various fields.

Uchino Manufacturing’s efforts towards SDGs

Uchino Manufacturing has established five environmental priority areas as an initiative for SDGs in its environmental policy and is working hard to realize them. The five environmental priority areas are:
  • 1. Improving the environmental value of products and services
  • 2. Countermeasures against global warming
  • 3. Human resource development
  • 4. Environmental and social contribution
  • 5. Strengthening risk management

〇Efforts for employment and work environment

1: Introducing IT in production management systems
Uchino Manufacturing promotes work order processing from its in-house internet system and is increasing productivity by implementing a “Plan-Do-Check-Action” policy. We also use internal SNS tools to quickly share information.
2: Improving the working environment
In order to create a rewarding workplace, Uchino Manufacturing strives to improve employee motivation by helping employees improve their abilities, understand their roles, and treat them fairly. We have also built a personnel evaluation system to foster a sense of trust based on our technological capabilities as a manufacturing company.
3: Developing high-quality human resources
At Uchino Manufacturing, we provide all employees with high-quality education such as in-house OJT, annual technical education programs, and overseas technical training based on the human resources development plan which was created in fiscal 2021. We won the "Manufacturing Category" Grand Prize at the Corporate Skilled Human Resources Development Awards.
4: Promoting women's empowerment
At Uchino Manufacturing, we have established a facility environment with uniforms, changing rooms, toilets, etc. providing consideration to the work satisfaction of female employees. OJT by veteran engineers has been implemented at manufacturing sites where there are few women. In addition, we have introduced a mentor system to recommend candidates for managerial positions as part of our diverse training menu. In 2016, we were certified as a Tokyo Life-Work Balance Certification Company in the “Women's Empowerment Promotion Category”.

〇Efforts for a global environment

Solar panels have been installed at the Tobuki Head Office Factory (75Kwh) and the Akiruno Factory (35Kwh). Additionally, LED lighting has been installed throughout the factory, contributing to energy savings and CO2 reduction through a factory design that actively incorporates natural lighting.

〇Contributions to the local community

Uchino Manufacturing offers internships and experiential programs for local elementary and junior high school students. In addition, we regularly visit local universities, technical colleges, high schools, etc. to communicate with students, promote the recruitment of local employees, and contribute to the revitalization of the local economy.
